A promise from the president of the Pope Center

To Readers of the Clarion Call:

In a few months, I will retire as president of the Pope Center for Higher Education Policy. I know that my successor, whoever it is, will continue the Pope Center’s commitment to improving higher education.

To help that transition, my husband, Richard Stroup, and I will personally match up to $10,000 in donations to the Pope Center made between today (December 10) and December 31, 2014.

As a Clarion Call reader, you know that higher education is not what it ought to be. Will you share your resources to bring about reform?

While the Pope Center receives substantial support from foundations, especially the Pope Foundation, the task at hand exceeds our capacity. To increase that capacity,  we rely on tax-deductible gifts from individuals, from you, our public audience. Together, we can raise $20,000 in the next few weeks.

A few of the things that $20,000 could make possible:

  • A forum on general education at UNC-Chapel Hill
  • Continued publication of our trustee newsletter Governance
  • An annual award to faculty (continuing the Spirit of Inquiry Award)
  • A study of higher education and economic development
  • An annual report that describes our activities and honors our donors
  • And more!

Don’t let this moment go by. Your donation, whether $50 or $5,000, is tax-deductible. You can be confident that the staff of the Pope Center, now and in the future, will use it wisely. That is why Rick and I are making our  commitment of $10,000.

You can donate online (using a credit card) by going here.
